Winter Shelters List 2006/7

Camden and City Churches Cold Weather Shelter
Address: Various venues
Phone: 07515 507 970 (from 26/12/07)
Hours: 7.30pm-8.45am. Must arrive by 8pm. No re-admission once booked in
Gender: Mixed Age: 18+
Target Group: Homeless people including those with a range of support needs.
Referrals: Only accept referrals from nominated Camden agencies, including Camden SST, New Horizon, Primary Care for Homeless People and University College Hospital. Phone (9am-1pm and 4pm-7pm) to check vacancies and venue details. If there is a vacancy, given directions to the shelter for that evening. Do not turn up at venue without phoning first. All places must be booked in advance.
Bed spaces: 14, including a separate area for women.
House Rules: No alcohol or dogs allowed on premises. No smoking inside church buildings. Must register with advocacy worker. Anti-social behaviour not tolerated. Need to accept C4WS ethos and terms of residence.

CARIS Islington Churches Cold Weather Shelter
5 shelters – including a quiet centre, a women-only centre and a drinkers centre. Day centre in Deptford. Buses pick up guests from: York Way (King’s Cross), Apollo Theatre (Victoria), Spitalfields market (Shoreditch) and Temple tube station at 10.45am, 4.45pm and 9.15pm daily.

Gender: Mixed Age: 18+
Target Group: Single homeless people including those with low to medium support needs. Those with a local connection to LB Islington are given priority.
Referrals: Self or agency referrals. Priority given to local Islington agencies. Phone (1pm-9pm) to check vacancies and venue details. If there is an available vacancy, given directions to the shelter for that evening. Do not turn up at venue without phoning first. All places must be booked in advance.
Bed spaces: 15, including a separate area for women.
House Rules: No alcohol, drugs, smoking, or dogs allowed on premises. Violence not tolerated. Shelter rules. Guest agreement.

Croydon Churches Floating Shelter

Hours: 7.30pm-8am. Last admission 9pm. No re-admission once booked in.
Gender: Mixed Age: 18+
Target Group: Single homeless people. Must have a local connection to LB Croydon.
Referrals: Self and local agency referrals. Phone office or mobile 10am-3pm daily to check vacancies (mobile switched off if no vacancies).
Bed spaces: 14
House Rules: No alcohol, drugs, dogs or smoking allowed on premises. Aggressive or threatening behaviour not tolerated. Will not admit people who are intoxicated when they arrive at the shelter.
Open: 1st November 07 – 31st March 08 (closed between 24th – 31st December)

Finchley Area Churches Winter Shelter

Hours: Open 8pm-8am. Last admission 10pm. No re-admission
Gender: Mixed Age: 18+
Target Group: Single homeless people sleeping rough who are attending Homeless Action Barnet’s Day Centre, Woodhouse Road, N12
Referrals: All referrals must be made by Homeless Action Barnet
Bed spaces: 15
House Rules: No alcohol, no dogs, no offensive weapons, no smoking inside the building. Violent or threatening behaviour is not tolerated
Open: 1st December 07 – 31st March 08 (closed between 23rd – 30th December)

Harrow Winter Shelter

Hackney Winter Nightshelter
Address: Various venues
Phone: 07962 447 373 (switched on 5pm-8pm Sunday and 7pm-8.30pm Monday to Saturday)
Hours: 8pm-8am (7pm on Sundays). Last admission 8.30pm. No re-admission once booked in.
Gender: Mixed Age: 16+
Target Group: Single homeless people, including rough sleepers. Can not accept those who are threatening or disruptive whilst queuing, or those barred from any Hackney Winter Nightshelter venues
Referrals: Self or agency referrals. Phone to check vacancy and venue details, 5pm- 8pm Sun and 7pm-8.30pm Mon-Sat. Need to book in nightly. Should turn up at venue by opening time (7pm Sun and 8pm Mon-Sat).
Bed spaces: 22, some venues have a separate area for women.
House Rules: No alcohol, drugs or dogs allowed on premises. People who are abusive, threatening or disruptive will be asked to leave and may be barred from the shelter.

Target Group: Anyone who is homeless over the Christmas period, particularly rough sleepers. Can accept people with dogs. Priority given to applicants with a local connection to LB Islington.

ROBES Project (Southwark and Lambeth)

Gender: Mixed Age: 18+
Target Group: Homeless people from either LB Lambeth or Southwark. Can accept couples. No automatic exclusions.
Referrals: All referrals must be made via the Manna Centre, 6 Melior Street, SE1 (open 8.30am-1.30pm daily)
Bed spaces: 12
House Rules: No alcohol or drugs allowed on premises. Disruptive or violent behaviour may lead to exclusion
Open: 6th January – 31st March 08

West London Churches Winter Night Shelter
Address: Various venues
Phone: 020 7351 4948 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm)
Hours: 8pm-7am. Last admission 8pm. No re-admission
Gender: Mixed Age: 16+
Target Group: Single homeless people sleeping rough in West London (Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea), including those with a range of support needs. Unable to accept those with a history of arson or violence.
Referrals: Mainly accept self referrals. Referrals accepted from local named agencies in emergencies only. Must phone first to check venue, vacancies and to discuss a potential referral. Priority given to people who stayed the previous night. If people don’t turn up by 8pm then a vacancy arises. Operate a waiting list. Must arrive at the venue before 8pm to be placed on waiting list.
Bed spaces: 35 spaces, including a separate area for women.
House Rules: No alcohol, drugs or smoking allowed in or outside the venues. Anti-social behaviour not tolerated.
