Volunteering at
Whitechapel We want volunteering at Whitechapel to be fun, rewarding and challenging. The skills, opinions and experiences of each volunteer are valued and we want them to be an integral part of the organisation. Volunteers can come alone or in small groups. Many work together in the city or in Canary Wharf, and choose to assist within the Mission before going on to work each day. The Whitechapel Mission began 130 years ago and much of our work would never have been possible without the support of thousands of volunteers. Today, volunteers play a crucial role, working with homeless people, providing essential administrative support or raising much-needed funds. Current volunteer vacancies at Whitechapel Voluntary Post - Clothing Store We are seeking to fill a vacancy in our clothing store. The focus of the role is to assist with sorting, measuring and storing of secondhand clothing to be given freely to homeless people. We are looking for people that can commit to giving us one or two days a week, to assist with the running of our clothing store. We believe that this role would suit a retired person, who is still fit and able. Flexible working arrangements are always considered. Voluntary Post - Handyperson A handyperson. We need someone who is able to undertake simple building maintenance jobs, and know when to call in professional help. About half a day a week should be sufficient. Voluntary Post - Book keeper A bookkeeper. We need someone who is able to record the receipts and payments of the Mission into our accounting system (SAGE). It does not need a high level of accounting skill, but we need someone who is comfortable with money and computers, and who is accurate and meticulous. We estimate that about one day's work each week is required. Voluntary Post - IT mainternance An IT maintenance person. The Mission has a local computer network, with a telephone system and CCTV linked in. The software (and to a lesser extent the hardware) needs to be maintained and reconfigured from time to time and the website kept up to date. A few hours are needed from time to time. |
