THE director of the Whitechapel Mission, Tony Miller has been made an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours. Now in his 30th year at Whitechapel, Mr Miller said the award was a “fantastic honour” and he was looking forward to a really special experience at Buckingham Palace. “I am grateful to all those who work, volunteer, support and serve the Whitechapel Mission, as they are the true deservers of this recognition,” he said.

Every day the Whitechapel Mission helps over 250 people, and as many as 300.  Many of them come to us because they are living on the streets or have become homeless through family breakdown, violence, poverty or discrimination.  Others may be unfairly threatened with eviction, or living in property that is damp, dangerous or overcrowded.

Since 1876, The Whitechapel Mission has been called to serve the men and women caught in the cycles of poverty,
hopelessness and dependencies of many kinds, and to see their lives transformed to hope, joy and lasting productivity.
